Right out of high school (1970) and I was on my way— backpacking the western states. My only regret at the time was that I couldn’t grab a ride to the Hopi reservation. I had a copy of the ‘Book of the Hopi’ by Frank Waters with “Drawings and source material recorded by Oswald White Bear Fredericks” and it was burning a hole in my consciousness. I had each of the three mesas circled on a folded map of Arizona, but just couldn’t get there—at least not yet.
Fast forward to present day (2021) and Blake and I have made pilgrimages to Hopi-land, the Grand Canyon, and Mesa Verde. Locally New Mexico is our immediate focus, and we are now looking closely at all the Pueblo People—art, ancestry, cultural similarities, architecture, migration studies, religion—the list is endless. The principal driving factor is intuition—a internal piece of knowledge that can’t be defined but can’t be dismissed. We must be on to something.
When “Book of the Hopi’ was published, the Hopi elders were not pleased that their closely guarded secrets had been revealed. Today, there is more acceptance about sharing Hopi history and especially the concept of the four worlds and movement to the fifth. Of special interest is White Bear’s description of the current and future worlds. He lists the transitional signals between the two as:
• Earthquakes
• Wildfires
• Migrations of people and wildlife
• High Technology
• Nuclear testing
In addition, we are examining the parallels between Hopi creation mythology and Tibetan and Hindu mysticism. Of equal interest are the Inca, Mayan, and Aztec civilizations where similarities are common in almost every area of societal norms. And don’t forget petroglyphs, rock art, and the stories they depict. Why are there so many common symbols throughout the world?
A recent United Nations report clearly shows that people are once again moving about the planet. Greed, power grabs, warfare, political upheaval and violence are intense. Yet, the Hopi predict, and we agree, that this is temporary. Soon the fifth world will emerge with emphasis on greater consciousness, God communion, spiritual and mental development, and breakthroughs in science, medicine and of course, space exploration. The time is now.
